Small Groups

We encourage everyone at Devonshire to be a part of a small group. “Why?” … You may ask. We believe that the Christian life is meant to be a shared life. We are called to encourage one another to love and good deeds (Heb. 10:25), to carry one another’s burdens (Gal. 6:2), and to exercise our spiritual gifts for the building up of the body of Christ, the church. This kind of fellowship isn’t practical for our Sunday morning gatherings. Our desire is that everyone experiences Christian community where you are being encouraged, prayed with, and prayed for.

Here at Devonshire, our small groups range in size from 6 to 15 individuals. These groups meet regularly to ask one another about the challenges of our daily lives and seek to find, through prayer and Bible study, how God is working in us and through us as we face the tests of life. This involves not only prayer, counsel, and encouragement but also helping one another with practical needs such as meals for a family with a newborn or networking to help an individual locate a job.

HOW OUR GROUPS ARE STRUCTURED

Our groups typically last two to three months, and kick off in September and January.  Each year, members are asked to commit to a group (don’t worry, it just means making the group a priority in your schedule and coming whenever possible).  We typically break during the summer months.

Most groups meet weekly.  Each group meeting may look differently, but you’ll usually see some time of prayer together, and discussing how a portion of scripture applies to our lives.  Groups often serve in the community together, and are encouraged to have some fun too!

I WANT TO JOIN!

If you are not currently in a Small Group and would like to be, send an email to let us know! We’d love to assist you in getting plugged into an environment where you can experience Christian fellowship.

2024 SMALL GROUPS & CLASSES

Adult Class (Sundays, 9am, Fellowship Hall): Many people are familiar with Psalm 23. But because we all know it, we often breeze through the psalm without slowing down long enough to rest in the assurance it offers. Join this six-week series as we are introduced to the great shepherd, the Lord, who promises to provide for every need of his flock. Though only six verses long, this psalm teaches us profound truths about our loving and protective God. By studying Psalm 23, we’ll encounter a life-transforming question: Do you trust the Lord to care for your needs?

Adult Class (Sundays, 9am, Church Library): Looking for a place to connect with others through the study of God’s Word? Join this class and find encouragement for life as you apply God’s Word to your life, connect with others, and encourage each other through prayer & fellowship.

In this twelve session LifeGuide® Bible Study on Joshua reads like an exciting novel–from the miraculous crossing of the Jordan to the crash of the walls of Jericho and the sun stopping in the sky. Through all the twists and turns, you’ll witness God’s power and faithfulness. Digging into the story of Joshua will encourage you to persevere in your own daily battles and arm you with the most powerful weapons you’ll ever need–God’s promises.

Adult Class (Wednesdays, 6:45pm, Church Library): Like the Roman Empire, today’s governments or organizations can become centered on power and believe their messages are the “good news.” Discover how Paul communicated the Good News of Christ to Philippi, a Roman colony that worshipped false gods. Consider your citizenship— and the message you convey to the world—as Ray Vander Laan takes us deeper into the culture of ancient Philippi.

Join David and Kathleen Pra in the church library on Wednesday evenings at 6:45, for a DVD study: “Clash of Kingdoms”. We begin on September 11, 2024.

Sign up below or contact David or Kathleen Pra ([email protected]) to let them know of your interest.

Women’s Study (Thursdays, 6:30pm, Fellowship Hall): Join us for a seven session bible study with Priscilla Shirer as we make hearing Him – His Word, His Will, His Heart, His Voice – an ongoing experience. “My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27. God invites us to meet with Him, to speak with Him, where He can speak afresh to us through His Word and by His Spirit. We’ll discover how we can listen with greater confidence, clarity, and discernment. We meet weekly on Thursday evenings for at 6:30pm for video teaching and break into small groups for discussion.

We begin on September 5, 2024.

Sign up below or contact Leanne Gardner ([email protected]) to let her know of your interest.
