Home Edition (WK 12): Unity in the Body of Christ – Romans 14

Categories:

Good Morning, Devonshire Church!

It’s week twelve of our weekly Worship Home Edition, and next week we are looking forward to gathering together with those who are able “in-person.” For more details on that, please go to devonshire.church/covid.

This week, Pastor Christopher will be bringing a message from Romans 14 entitled, “Unity in the Body of Christ.” I pray that you’ll be encouraged in these days to love one another and keep your eyes on the Lord through this week’s home edition.

Church, let’s sing, pray, recite Scripture, give, listen, and reflect/discuss together

Below you’ll find a guide for use with this week’s home edition. Please read through the announcements below.

**If you have any prayer concerns/needs, that you would like to share with me, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I and your church leadership love you and are here to serve you.

Your Brother in Christ,

Pastor Derek

WEEKLY BULLETIN

INFORMATION & RESOURCES

IN-PERSON WORSHIP BEGINNING NEXT WEEK

We are reopening our doors for worship beginning Sunday, June 14! We are super excited to see everyone in person but we also want to take some temporary precautions to help ensure the safey of those who choose to join us.

First, we will be having two services and are asking you to sign up for the one you plan to attend. There will be services at 9 am and 10:30 am. We are limiting each service to 75 people to provide for social distancing. Please sign up for the service that you desire to attend at devonshire.church/rsvp or text the keyword RSVP9 or RSVP1030 to 717.275.0400.

Second, we will not be offering ministry and care for our children during the Worship Services (nursery care, preschool class, or Children’s Church). The entire family is welcome in the sanctuary for worship.

Third, we ask that you refrain from physical touch. While as a church we value personal connection and touch, we believe it’s wise to refrain from unnecessary physical contact at this time — no handshaking or hugs. During the service, we will not be having our normal time of greeting each other, offering baskets will be placed in the narthex for easy access, prepackaged communion elements will be available in the pews, seating will be staggered, and masks are recommended.

For those unable to meet in-person, we will continue to provide an online option. For more details, please go to devonshire.church/covid.

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY – CARE TEAM

Would you be interested and willing to serve on our care team this week? The goal for this week’s care team is to extend love and care by connecting with individuals and families in our church family through making phone calls.

If you would like to join this team, please sign up today at devonshire.church/care.

TWO SUMMER MINISTRY TRIP OPPORTUNITIES

This summer there are two opportunities for you to consider participating in: one here at the end of June in Harrisburg and one to Laurel Mission in the Appalachian mountains of KY in July. More details can be found at devonshirechurch.org/ministrytrip.

If you are interested in the Harrisburg Hometown Mission Trip, please register HERE by June 16.

If you are interested in applying to be a part of the Kentucky team, let Pastor Derek know by June 30.

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY – GROUND BEEF

During these days, the financial strain for many is greater than usual and help with some food costs may be appreciated.

There is still some beef available for disbursement to individuals and families that would appreciate the encouragement and blessing in this way.

If you or someone that you know in our community would be blessed and benefit by receiving some ground beef, please contact Pastor Derek and we will get it distributed to you.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL — VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Vacation Bible School will be here soon, and at this point, we are moving forward with this valuable time of sharing the love of Jesus with the children of our community and church family.  Of most importance in planning to hold this week of ministry, we need to know how many volunteers we will have. We need volunteers to commit by June 21st.

Click HERE to sign up to be a Team Leader. Team Leaders will lead kids around from station to station. Contact Staci Adams or Junita Hannold with any questions.

Please note the dates for this year’s VBS have been moved to Sunday, August 2 – Thursday, August 6, 2020 in the evenings from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. For children ages 4 years old through fifth grade.

Rocky Railway VBS — Climb aboard for mountains of fun at Rocky Railway! On this faith-filled adventure, kids discover that trusting Jesus pulls them through life’s ups and downs. Each day at Rocky Railway VBS, kids track through field-tested rotations that reinforce relevant Bible Points and immerse kids in new adventures.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Use the liturgy below as your guide while you watch this morning’s Home Edition …

Here’s a YouTube Playlist that includes the songs and message in order: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7GJpzfndlNSyoPN-zVy2UVedFleiioR8

CALL TO WORSHIP

‘I see that the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave. You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with the joy of your presence.’ -Acts 2:25b-28 NLT

SONG: In Christ Alone

CONFESSION/LAMENT

“Lord, this morning as we gather together-though apart- We praise you that you see us, you know us, and you love us. We also gather today with heavy hearts, Lamenting the evil at work in our world.

When we are apathetic to violence, forgive us. When we are numb to compassion, soften our hearts. When we are confused and bewildered, Comfort us. Be with us, Jesus.

Grant us the humility and the courage to be your hands and feet to our neighbors pursuing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with you. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Amen.

SONG: Give Us Clean Hands

ASSURANCE

“We must believe that the heavenly Father will be gracious to us in Christ Jesus. To all who have repentance and who seek Jesus Christ for their salvation, I pronounce forgiveness in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Amen!”  -From Calvin

GIVING

As God’s prized possessions, let’s take a moment and pass the virtual giving baskets. You can give online via Devonshire’s website or snail mail.

BENEDICTION

33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! 36 For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.       -Romans 11:33, 36 NIV

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION

  1. How did the Holy Spirit speak to you today?
  2. What are the implications of this passage for our church family? For our community?
