Home Edition (WK 14): An Unexpected Disruption – Mark 1:21-28

Categories:

Good Morning, Devonshire Church!

Today we continue to offer only our weekly Worship Home Edition due to taking precautions to possible COVID-19 exposures in our church family. We look forward to meeting again next Sunday, September 6, with those who are able “in-person.”

In the next week, we look forward to sharing with you opportunities for the whole family to participate in that are scheduled to begin the week of September 20 – children’s ministry, youth ministry, and adult small groups.

Also, rather than partake of communion next Sunday as is our habit (1st Sunday of the month), we will plan to do so at the River Service on September 13.

Finally, this week’s message comes from Mark 1:21-28 and entitled, “An Unexpected Distraction.” I pray that you’ll be encouraged to trust the Lord in the midst of whatever it may be that you journeying through as you listen or watch this week’s home edition.

Church, let’s sing, pray, recite Scripture, give, listen, and reflect/discuss together

Below you’ll find a guide for use with this week’s home edition. Please read through the announcements below.

**If you have any prayer concerns/needs, that you would like to share with me, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I and your church leadership love you and are here to serve you.

Your Brother in Christ,

Pastor Derek

NEW TO DEVONSHIRE?

If this is your first time joining us online or in person, please take a moment to connect with us HERE. We are glad you chose to worship with us today and would love to learn a little more about you and how we can best serve you!

Plan to join us on Sunday, September 13 at 10:30am for a morning of outdoor worship all together as a church family. It will be held at Wade & Janet Archibald’s property on the Juniata River. After the worship service, lunch will be provided. In order for us to have enough food for everyone, please let us know you are coming by clicking the picture above, by signing up at the Guest Information Table, or by texting RIVER to 717-275-0400. Also, bring chairs or blankets for your family to sit on.

WE NEED YOU!

In just a few weeks, summer will be winding down and we’ll be getting ready for the fall season to begin. We are planning towards starting up some ministry opportunities for all ages on September 20.

As we plan towards that end, prayerfully consider how you’ll engage and connect and spur one another on in the Lord. Specifically, consider being a part of our teams that will serve our children and youth ministries.  Clearly, much in our world is different than it was a few months ago, but the mission and the calling haven’t changed.  May we continue to be faithful towards the mission of helping people know and follow Jesus.

If you are willing to serve on either our children’s (nursery/preschool/children’s church), youth ministry teams, or even as a small group leader, please contact Pastor Derek ([email protected]) and he will connect you with the appropriate ministry leader.

IN-PERSON WORSHIP GUIDELINES

We will be reopening our doors for worship next Sunday, September 6! We are super excited to see everyone in person but we also want to take some temporary precautions to help ensure the safety of those who choose to join us. For more details on our current guidelines, please go to devonshire.church/covid.

Call to Worship:

When the church gathers, we remember that God himself has spoken, and His Word, His promises, are completely true, completely trustworthy, and full of power. We hear Him speak and we respond:

Hear the word of the Lord:

Honor the Lord, you heavenly beings; honor the Lord for his glory and strength. Honor the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea.  The God of glory thunders.  The Lord thunders over the mighty sea.

The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord strikes with bolts of lightning. The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake; In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!” The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as king forever. The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace. – Psalm 29

All Creatures of Our God and King

Confession:

When we worship our King of Glory, we say both a “yes” to him, and a “no” to all the other things that demand our praise. Let’s take a moment and ask ourselves what demands our praise. What are we devoting our lives to that will only disappoint? It may be sex, money, or power. It may be our reputation, or even our families. Ask the Lord to help us see where our hopes are, and to lay them down so we can cling only to Jesus. (Romans 1, Rev. 4:11)

Let us read together:

I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the guilt of my sin. – Ps. 32:5

Lord, I Need You

Reading:

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:14-15

Jesus’ ministry isn’t just something that happened in the past; it’s happening even now, as he prays for us and leads us in worship before the Father.

Assurance/Peace:

This is the story of Jesus, our vision and our hope:

“Christ made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a servant and appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross.

Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” — Philippians 2:7-11

GIVING

As God’s prized possessions, let’s take a moment and pass the virtual giving baskets. You can give online via Devonshire’s website or snail mail.
